No two years are ever the same and in the weather situation in Europe has lead to some challenging conditions in the world of pest control. Whether you are struggling to cope with moss in sports turf, early larval activity in orchards or the first houseflies of summer, an early Spring always brings challenges on the back of a wet and mild winter.

We focus this issue on semiochemicals or as you better know them, pheromones, attractants and other behaviour modifying chemicals. Displaying a breadth of expertise, we look at applications in a variety of markets: insect trapping in historic houses; coconut rhinoceros beetle management in the Philippines; how pheromones and other semiochemicals are essential tools for IPM; a new 3WAY monitor from Italy; and control strategies for important Date Palm Pests.

Our company profile this month features, Certis Europe who have demonstrated the ability to grow from the sum of their parts, historically as separate regional distribution operations, to a principal international national supplier of crop management solutions. We provide an overview to their portfolio and successful approach to market.

Yours truly has put pen to paper yet again to provide a commentary on two major regional exhibitions and conferences that I had the pleasure of visiting, with a snap shot of Eurocido, Dortmund and CAC, Shanghai. Pest control certainly gets you out and about!

Elsewhere among these pages we have a review of disease management in mango; we check in with the trade associations to learn what is current and of concern to the industry and with an depth look at public health; and acknowledging the change in the Presidential position at FAOPMA, Rob Fryatt interviews Myeon-Ha Park, the new President from Korea.

Lastly, as usual we include our bi-monthly round up of news, long and short from around the world. Next month we feature vertebrate management, so whether you are involved in controlling birds or beasts, we would be pleased to hear of your experiences in large animal pest control.

Enjoy your reading and have a good Spring.
